DESIGN A Comic Strip
Competition
Regional Youth Support Services is a Central Coast Youth Service and not-for-profit organisation that has supported young people in our community for 38 years. We always seek ways to engage young people in the arts, culture and community to better support their wellbeing. As part of our event, we traditionally run an initiative to inspire the young creatives and storytellers in our community.
This year we have created the “Design a Comic Strip Competition”
All entries will be proudly exhibited at our event Central Coast Comicon, where attendees can marvel at the incredible young local talent on display.
The Design a Comic Strip Comp is open to young artists 7 - 25 and there will be 3 age categories for judging.
7 - 12 years
13 - 16 years
17 - 25 years
All entries will be exhibited at the Central Coast Comicon event on Saturday 25th May 2024 at The Entertainment Grounds Gosford.
Prizes
Great creative prize packs from Derivan Art Supplies, FREE entry passes for Central Coast Comicon and Hoyts Movie Tickets are up for grabs! There will be a ‘First Place’ and ‘Highly Commended’ awarded in each age category.
REQUIREMENTS
Artists should use the comic box template to design their comic strip
Hand illustrated using traditional mediums - pen and ink, textas, coloured pencils, graphic markers, paints etc.
Entries are to be scanned and uploaded on the competition page of our webiste.
Competition closes on Friday 3rd of May 2024
Winners announced on Friday 10th May 2024

Terms and Conditions

Your comic strip has to be an original design that you have illustrated yourself using traditional mediums - remember to sign your artwork!

Traditional mediums include - pen and ink, textas, coloured pencils, graphic markers, paints etc.

Due to AI making it hard to decipher what is authentic art - digital art will not be accepted.

It can be in the style of comic/manga/fantasy art - but must use the square comic strip format provided.

You need to scan and upload your design to our digital entry form.

Artist under 16 years will need parent/caregiver consent

One artwork only per entrant.

A copy of all entries will be enlarged and exhibited at Central Coast Comicon.
Judging
The Design a Comic Strip Competition will be judged by members of the Australian Cartoonist Association
Applications closed on Friday the 3rd of May at 11:59 pm.
Judging will commence the week of Monday 6th May and winners will be notified and announced on Friday 10th of May
Artists awarded ‘First Place’ and ‘Highly Commended’ will receive a FREE Family Pass to attend the Central Coast Comicon event.
Creative Prize Packs will be awarded on stage at the event.
Sharing to Social Media
We would love to share some of the entries to Central Coast Comicon Social Media.
We take the privacy of young people seriously, and we will not tag the artist in social media posts.
The artist will only be mentioned by their first name, age and suburb in social media posts and the exhibition.
